The Streamy Awards
The folks at NewTeeVee, Tilzy.tv, and Tubefilter have joined forces to recognize and award quality web series through the jointly-created Streamy Awards, an awards show specific to online video entertainment. Previously, the awards scene for online video comprised YouTube Awards, Yahoo! Video Awards, and Webby Awards.
Unlike those award shows, The Streamys have more robust categories, recognizing the talent in front and behind the camera (e.g., best original music, art direction, etc). This is more in the style of traditional shows like the Oscars and Golden Globes. These fuller categories differentiate this award show from others and is another step towards legitimizing web-distributed content and the talent within these shows.
From the website:
The Streamys were created to recognize and honor outstanding achievement for shows produced originally for broadband distribution, and recognizes both the shows themselves and the people who make them possible, through awards in 24 categories covering the arts and sciences of making web television. The winners of the Streamy Awards will be celebrated at a live ceremony, in Los Angeles, on March 28, 2009.
Nominations are open until 1/23/09. Winners will be announced in LA on March 28th.
For those of you interested, you can nominate your favorite web series at http://www.streamys.org. The top vote getter will get an automatic bid into the nomination. The others will be selected by the judges. According to their rules, a total of one vote per IP address per day will be counted towards the final vote.
For those who are interested in nominating The Hayley Project (shameless plug time), please do so under Best Dramatic Web Series. You can nominate Rachel Risen (Hayley) for Best Female Actor in a Dramatic Series.
