I just ran across this Tubemogul mini-survey from August (Are Producers of Online Video Making Money?), and I thought it was worth posting. Some interesting numbers in here, but unfortunately, they are all relative/percentage metrics. There is no absolute revenue number provided.
A few highlights from the report:
- Approximately 51% of producers are monetizing their content. This number seems low since many sites, like Revver allow opt-in advertising. My guess is may of the producers haven’t hit minimum views for payout
- Average CPM is $12.39
- One highlighted comment in the report said that the YouTube partner program is only worth participating in if you have 100,000+ subscribers. This tracks with what I’ve heard from producers in the program. The CPMs generally aren’t worth the hassle or aggravation to potentially annoy your viewers. From what I hear, the CPMs are really low
