Joost to Web

September 7, 2008

A few days ago, Joost finally announced what we knew they were going to/had to do. They are moving to the web, a la Hulu and are basically abandoning their must-download desktop client as the primary means for serving video. This move makes sense (and might be overdue) as we move closer and closer to the “webtop” era.

We had talked with Joost about distributing The Hayley Project through its services, so I knew that this move was coming this month. I’m optimistic that the move to the web will increase their user-base and am hoping this will positively impact our viewership numbers. They might be playing catch-up to Hulu, but remember that Joost has the additional features to make video-watching a more social experience, so don’t count them out.
