New Show on MySpace

September 13, 2007

Most online shows are independent productions with shoestring budgets, and lots of creative freedom. Apparently, the creative freedom on the web that is lacking in television is what has brought Thirtysomething and My So-Called Life producers to the web, according to Yahoo. The producers are launching a show called “Quarterlife” which be will be exclusively shown on MySpace. Like more and more online shows, there’s an interesting spin to the show. They will be setting up a social networking site in parallel with the show. The idea of building a community around a show (a la Lonelygirl) is a great idea, but I’m skeptical whether the social networking site can gain enough traffic outside of the show’s viewership. I suppose it depends on what makes it different than a facebook or myspace. Either way, building community for an online show is becoming more and more popular.
