I recently received word of Larry Meistrich’s studio NEHST Creations and his website PITCH NEHST (pronounced “next”). He is scheduled to come and talk to the NY Film Synergy Meetup group on May 8th.
Larry Meistrich started a new studio NEHST Creations to finance, produce, and distribute pictures, TV, and Internet projects. Larry was the producer of several feature films including Billy Bob Thornton’s Sling Blade, You Can Count on Me with Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney and Belly with DMX, Nas and Method Man.
The purpose of Larry’s studio and his website PITCH NEHST is to discover talented people and produce content. PITCH NEHST is an outlet for the average Joe to pitch an idea to the studio (for a nominal cost of $10). If they like it, they may sign the talent to a deal.
One thing I don’t get is why Larry is going to Syracuse and Rutgers for special pitch day sessions and not, as of yet, scheduled to do the same at Columbia or NYU, better known for their film programs. I wonder how successful NEHST will be compared to Eisner’s Vuguru. Larry has an impressive resume but seems more connected with the independent community, so I wonder if he can provide the mass marketing that Eisner can.
The next Pitch Day is scheduled at Rutgers in about a week.
