Red Hot Chilli Peppers UGC Contest
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are hosting a user-generated video contest for their song “Charlie” from their album STADIUM ARCADIUM. More than just a contest though, the winning video will actually be the official video for that song. This is a great way for bands to reach out to their fans, interact with them, and actually leverage the fans’ creativity in generating band-specific content. As of this posting, there are 32 videos up on You Tube.
This contest reminds me of what the band Stefy did late last year, where they held a 15-seconds of fame contest. The contest encouraged fans to video record themselves dancing to Stefy’s song “Hey School Boy.” Last year, Stefy was actually video blogging on You Tube too. I know a lot of bands have official websites where they leave messages for fans, but its nice to see more direct communication via video.
